The same things happens every year. The closer you get to the last day of school, the more busy you become. That's because there are awards ceremonies and teacher luncheons and end of the year shows and volunteer luncheons and graduations and end of the season parties and a million other things that are scheduled and need to be attended before you get an enormous break and the "what-am-I-going-to-do-with-my-kids-for-the-entire-summer?" feeling. As a mom you are trying to get everything done as quickly as you can before your kids are with you all the time, and you are trying to juggle what you can and cannot attend to make everything run smoothly. No matter how much you try, you are never prepared for the last day of school.
Last week my parents came in. When I called and asked them to come we didn't have that much on the books. But as the weeks passed, more and more things popped up. Every time I thought about how I could possibly be in two places at the same time with different kids, I remembered that they would be here and could take one or two of them. What a relief. It's been hard having Charlie gone, but even harder when we have to be a million places. The funny thing is all of our activities are basically done. Sarah's last art class is tomorrow and then we're done, but they've all been replaced by parties and awards ceremonies and other unique, end of the year festivities.
So, a huge thanks to my mom and dad. Not only for helping install door handles and sinks and drawer handles and knobs, but also for going with Andy to the last Cub Scout pack meeting and taking the girls out while I took Andy to his baseball party and driving the kids to school and helping keep them occupied with I did other things. I may not say it enough, but I really do appreciate the help and only hope that I can do the same for my kids some day.
In the middle of all of this the kids and I are meeting Charlie in Denver this weekend to go house hunting. House hunting is hard enough without bringing three kids along, but that's what we've got to do. Challenging as that may be, I think it will help get them a little more excited about the move, especially if we can find something they like. I've been looking the last few days online and haven't found that many I like, but keep trying to remind myself that we only need one. Thankfully Charlie and I have very similar tastes in houses, so we shouldn't have any problems agreeing on one if we can just find it.
One more week of school, three more weeks until we move. It's going to happen whether I like it or not, so I might as well embrace it head on!
