Continuing on the path of blogger delinquency, we had a fabulous and much more upbeat weekend than the few days prior. There are so many pictures I take and mental notes I make of things that I would like to turn into blog posts, but lately I just can't seem to make it to the computer to put it all down. Too bad because some of it is pure gold but by the time I do sit down I can't remember it.
Anyway, Sarah's birthday was Friday. Of course we had to make cupcakes for school and not just any cupcakes, Fundamiddles. They are a new from-the-box creation where you put some weird creme in the middle of the cupcake. Weird because I really can't describe it. It's not frosting or marshmallow or anything I can specifically put my finger on, but it's good. They were quite the hit. Even the teacher praises my cupcakes every time I make them, and they're always from a box so I don't know why they excite her so much, making me feel like a pastry rock star. One girl told her mom they were like Twinkie cupcakes, but even that doesn't describe the filling correctly.
Sarah wanted steak for her birthday dinner, so the family headed to Outback Friday evening. Funny, that's exactly where I took her and the kids last year (Charlie was out of town) because she wanted steak then too. She ate two-thirds of a 6oz sirloin and demolished the baked apple desert as well. It's amazing how much she can eat sometimes considering how small she is.
Saturday morning it rained and Andy's baseball game got cancelled so we didn't have to go anywhere. I took Andy to a Scholastic Warehouse sale where there are more books than you can ever imagine. We were there for about two hours. He got kind of bored by the end, but I loved taking him and picking out new books together and promoting his love of reading.
We spent the afternoon doing a whole lot of nothing, which we really needed to do, and then went to Sarah's birthday party. It was at the place where she takes (or took, we're done now) gymnastics. They did pizza and cake and opened presents first and then did some gymnastics, played with the parachute and played a few other games. The last 30 minutes they turned off the lights, gave each kid a glow necklace, turned on the disco ball and had glow-in-the-dark gymnastics. The kids had a ball. The only part I didn't like was when they turned the strobe lights on. I totally get how some people can have seizures from that!
On Sunday after the girls' swim classes we went to Fort Worth to the Food Truck Park. Charlie and I had really been looking forward to going, but were a little disappointed that there were only five food truck there. It is really small. We thought there would be a big courtyard with lots of trucks and tons of choices. There weren't, but what we did have was really yummy and it was a beautiful day with a nice breeze and someone singing with her guitar as we sat under the shade at a picnic table.
When we got home, Charlie took the kids to the park and gave me a little time to myself to read. Overall not a crazy fanfare Mother's Day, but just the kind of day I like. It was a great way to regroup and spend some time as a family and just enjoy the outdoors.
